Summary

The Quality Inspector is responsible for ensuring the quality and safety of natural, organic, specialty, and fresh food products throughout the distribution process.

This role involves inspecting incoming and outgoing products, verifying compliance with regulatory and company standards, and maintaining detailed records to ensure traceability and quality control.

The Quality Inspector plays a critical role in upholding our commitment to delivering safe, high-quality products to retail partners.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect Incoming and Outgoing Products : Conduct visual and measurement-based inspections of natural, organic, specialty, and fresh food products to ensure compliance with company quality standards, food safety regulations, and customer specifications.
  • Verify Compliance : Ensure products meet Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP), and other relevant food safety standards, including organic certification requirements.
  • Perform Quality Assessments : Use tools such as calipers, thermometers, and moisture meters to measure product characteristics, including size, weight, temperature, and packaging integrity.
  • Document Findings : Maintain accurate and detailed records of inspections, noting any defects or deviations, and prepare reports for supervisors and quality assurance teams.
  • Recommend Improvements : Identify non-conforming products, recommend corrective actions, and collaborate with warehouse and production teams to improve processes and reduce quality issues.
  • Conduct Safety Audits : Monitor warehouse conditions, including refrigerated environments, to ensure compliance with food safety and storage standards (e.g., maintaining temperatures between 32°F and 55°F for fresh products).
  • Communicate with Teams : Share inspection results with warehouse supervisors and provide feedback to ensure continuous improvement in product handling and storage.
  • Ensure Traceability : Verify lot codes, expiration dates, and labeling for accuracy to support traceability and compliance with regulatory requirements.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Experience : 2-5 years of experience in quality inspection, preferably in the food and beverage industry, with knowledge of natural, organic, or specialty food products.
  • Education : High school diploma or equivalent required; a degree or certification in food science, quality assurance, or a related field is preferred.
  • Knowledge : Familiarity with food safety regulations (e.g., GMPs, HACCP, FDA requirements) and organic certification standards.

Skills :

  • Keen attention to detail and a results-driven approach.
  • Strong organizational and record-keeping skills.
  • Proficiency in using inspection tools (e.g., thermometers, calipers, moisture meters).
  • Effective communication skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, refrigerated warehouse environment (32°F–55°F).
  • Physical Requirements : Ability to lift up to 30 pounds regularly and up to 50 pounds with assistance; frequent standing, walking, bending, and reaching.
  • Preferred : Bilingual in Spanish; experience with warehouse management systems or quality management software.

Work Environment

This role operates in a refrigerated warehouse environment with temperatures ranging from 32°F to 55°F. The position may involve exposure to moderate noise levels from equipment such as forklifts and packaging machinery. The Quality Inspector will work both independently and as part of a team to ensure product quality and safety.
